I was diagnosed almost two years ago with PCO. I have always had irregular periods as well as caring extra weight. Now my wiehgt is out of control. I have been trying to drop the weight but 1 pound here gain 3 back. I am very frustrated. My previous physician put me on birth control pills to force my periods. I have been off the pills for 3 months and guess what NO period. Like I am surprised. That is what I get for being my own doctor. From articles I have read, birth control pills just add to the whole problem of PCO and the weight gain. It seems like a no win situation. Though I am not reading to become pregnant, I would like the option. This weight needs to come off first. I am only 29,but the clock is ticking. : I've been diagnosed with pcos and I am also overweight. It has been a battle for me to loss weight, but my docter has now suggested a low carb high protein diet. I am also taking glucophage 1500mg a day. In my research, and accroding to my doctor, the diet and medication should help with weight loss. You may want to ask your doctor about glucophage. I am also trying to get pregnant, but to no avail. My doctor has suggested I take a fertility drug. I am very scared of having multipe births. Don't be discouraged, I believe this disorder can been treated...at least I hope..good luck
: : : : I am 20 years old, and am going thursday to my gyno to talk to her about the possibility of PCOS. I haven't had a period in who knows how long, I was always very involved in athletics until my weight made it hard for me, and I display all the symptoms I have been informed of. My main concern now is not children, I know advances are being made every day,and I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. My main concern now is weight loss. Has anyone dropped a significant amount of weight once they were diagnosed? Also, what is the current treatment of PCOS, and how effective is it in stopping the symptoms? Like the dark hair, etc.? Any information would be wonderful,
: : : I am curious what is PCOS?

: : Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome....or something to that effect. It's when your ovaries are covered
: : with cysts. I don't have it, but I understand that it can be painful, and makes conceiving almost impossible. Other side effects include weight gain and facial hair. ( a dark mustache or growth on the chin area especially. )
