: : I am 20 years old and my doctor just told me that I may have Polycysitic Ovarian Disease. I don't know much about this, so maybe some of you can help me understand what is going on. I just married in December, and needless to say, this isn't exactly what I wanted to hear. My doctor thought that my irregular periods was caused by my thyroid or this disease. We just ruled out my thyroid. So, if anyone can help or give advice, please email me. Thank you.: i am 25 years old and was diagnosed with PCOS about 1 year ago. after 2 1/2 years of trying to get pregnant, i went to a fertility doctor. it was there that he diagnosed me with PCOS. i had been suffering with symptoms for many years and every doctor i went to told me that it was just my eating habits. i knew that this couldn't be right since my habits had not changed. i just accepted what these doctors told me because they were the doctors. it is very important to find a doctor who knows about this disease so you can be correctly identified. my symptoms were absence of periods, excessive weight gain ( i have gained about 75 lbs. since i got married in Dec. '95), acne, abnormal hair growth, and sometimes dizzy spell from my blood sugar levels being off. it's a very hard disease to live with for me at least. i am extremely self-consious about my weight, but there's nothing i can do. my fertility doctor tried me on rezulan(which is a diabetic med.) to help my insulin work. which by the way is the reason for the weight gain. people with PCOS, our insulin doesn't break down the carbs and sugars we eat. in a unaffected person, their insulin does this and control their weight. this is why it is so easy for us to gain weight. anyway, the rezulan was working, i lost 12 lbs. and had 2 periods on my own for the first time in many years. but then my doc. found out that there is a risk of liver failure even death with this med., so he took me off. we are now looking for another med, but haven't been succesful yet. i did get pregnant in march of 1998, but miscarried in june. there is an increased risk of miscarrage in those of us with PCOS. if anyone out there has any information let me know. also, if anyone wants to talk about this disease email me too.
: Hi my name is Heidi, I have been trying to get pg for about 5 years, I went to the fertility clinic about 3 years ago and found out I had PCO,(I did not know it was a desease) I got pg first time at the drugs but lost her 6 months later. Have you found anything that works yet?
Hi, I'm new to this so bare with me. I'm 30 and was diagnosed with pco. I had a baby 7 yrs ago and have been trying to get pregnant since. I tried the clomid and went to reprinex shots. That didn't work. I tried 3 months but it was so expensive I had to stop. I didn't even ovulate then. I'm now on the clomid again but so far nothing. I haven't given up yet. I'm saving some money and will try the shots again. I know how frustrating and upseting it is. Not many people understand what I'm going through. The doctor told me to try again and if it doesn't work to look into an egg donar and ivf. I just don't know what to do. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks....Jackie
