Yes, my son had this surgery when he was four. He's now 23. The surgery included the removal of some inner ear parts and so there was some hearing loss. At the time, however, the doctor said later advances in surgical techniques might at some point restore the loss. And that, in fact, happened. When he was 18, he had two out-patient surgeries, a few months apart, the nature of which I don't fully understand, but the results have been quite satisfactory. At the time of the original problem, we were advised of the need for regular follow-up care, and until the later surgery, he had to see the doctor about every six months to have the ear "cleaned out" -- an uncomfortable but not unbearable procedure.
