Dear Ed,

Seven days, huh? Try 9 months! Ha! I have had what we call Eustachian Tube Dysfunction for a very long time. Tried medication known to man and had every test done on the face of the planet. Mine started the same way yours did, bad cold/flu and the ears were never the same. I would go seek a VERY GOOD ENT doctor and have the typanogram done, like Paula said. However, I had 3 of them done and the first 2 were normal, so don't get discouraged if they don't diagnose you right away. You know your body and you have a pressure problem, find a doc that will help you confirm that diagnosis. My problem got worse when I let it go, I started to get this dizzy-like I'm not all there feeling. Not fun. It got to the point, I had to do something.

Some meds that I tried, Claritan, Allegra, Flonase, Nasacort, Semprex-D, Guifenasen, Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold Medicine, Afrin, Aspirin, need I go on? Nothing worked, except for the Alka Seltzer a little. I would ask your doc what to try first.

When the humidifiers at night and the Breath Right strips didn't work, I got a myringotomy done. That is where they poke holes in your eardrums to releive the pressure. Kind of the tubes that kids get, but without the tubes. It worked beautifully for about 2 weeks, everything went away, I had my life back and I was happy. However, the holes close up after 2 weeks and I got another head cold and bam, my ears are not working again. So, I am going to have tubes inserted on 4/25. Hopefully be rid of this problem for good.

Good Luck and feel free to email me, if you would like.
