It appears, in her case, that tissue remains allowing fluid and air to build up and a constant draining is the result. They will leave the ear packed for a longer time following surgery. I had my first mastoidectomy for choleasteatoma when I was 21 and had my seventh operation yesterday! I am now 57 years of age. Unfortunately because of lack of microscopic techniques they have not been able to save my hearing over the years. Nevertheless I have worn hearing aids and have been a successful teacher all my life. I play keyboards in a danceband at weekends. I have never let the desease defeat me.
