Can anyone relate? My 9 year old awoke with major ear pain about 6 weeks ago. I took her to the doctors. They diagnosed a sinus infection and prescribed antibiotics. Ear was better after 4 days and on the 7th day she started saying her ear was "killing her".
I took her back. New doctor in (of course she always gets sick on a Saturday!) says oh, no! Very bad ear infection! Really inflamed! One of the worse he has seen. New antibiotic. Still bad 4 days later and we are sent to an ENT. He sees inflamation and says he thinks it is outer ear and prescribes drops and another antibiotic because eardrum looks inflamed. Week later new antibiotic, hearing test (came back normal). Ear pain is still bad. He says her ear looks
imflamed. His partner says the eardrum does not look right to him. 4 antibiotics and 2 series of drops later, they both suggest surgery (tube and drainage). We decided to do it because I want my little girl to stop crying.
Surgery was done and they said there was some fluid, but her eardrum was very large-twice the size of normal-caused by the infection. Well, 3 days since surgery and most people have said their kids are much better the next day. She is still in a lot of pain. I am sorry this is so long! Has anyone ever had a swollen eardrum be the cause of extreme pain in the ear? Did it go away? Thanks for reading this :-)
