I have a condition called Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. This caused a number of problems for me, including popping and crackling in my ears and fatigue, like you described. I have no doubt that something is wrong with your eustachian tubes. Your doctors are correct, that it is not life threatening, but annoying. My theory is that the eustachian tube is collecting fluid, simialar to a middle ear infection. Doctors cannot see the fluid and do not have an answer as to why the fluid is there and being produced. I am assuming that it is a result of some kind of allergy.

I suffered with eustachian tube problems since September of last year and have done much research on the topic. I ended up having tubes inserted into my ears which allow airflow in the middle ear and in turn airflow into the eustachian tube. I also have a discharge of fluid frequently. Which is where my "fluid in the eustachian tube" theroy comes in. However, the popping, pressure and clicking and all the other wild symptoms I had went away after the tubes were put in.

Things you might want to try in the interim would be cortisone nasal sprays, such as Nasacort or Flonase. Alka Seltzer Plus Cold Medicine, the Phenopropanlomine in it seems to help. Motrin, seemed to help with the pressure, but you can't stay on that for long periods of time and you didn't describe having any real pressure, just popping. If you are not against taking meds, try taking Claritan-D or Allegra D. All these things gave me some relief, but the tubes were the cure.

Best of luck to you in your search for your cure.
