Hello Ray,

I am experiencing the same thing you are. I live near a refinery, and the first time I heard
the low frequency hum in my ear I thought it was just noise from the refinery.

I was taking a muscle relaxant at the time, which can cause tinnitus, so I stopped taking it
and the noise went away. However, it didn't stay away. I have stopped ingesting things that
have the potential of causing tinnitus such as caffiene and aspirin. I even stopped taking
my arthritis medication (Celebrex) hoping that that might help. During all of this I had a
ventilation tube put into my bad ear to eliminate the negative pressure I've suffered from for
years. For about two weeks afterwards the humming sound was gone. However, in the last
few days it has returned. You didn't mention in your post if you have eustachian tube disorder.
I've had it for years and that is the reason for the negative pressure I had. It may also be
playing a role in the humming noise, though no doctor has ever told me that. When this latest
humming episode began, I noticed an allergic type reaction in my sinuses and throat before
the humming began. I also felt a little pain. Anyway, it may just be coincidence, but it sure
seems like there could be a link. I've also been prone to ear infections as an adult, and I
may have another one, even though the tube prevents any fluid build-up that may lead to
infections. Is it possible to have infections in the eustachian tube? Well, I know this will
probably be of very little help to you, but at least you can know your not alone in this.

Ron
