: Thank you Harry for your very informative advice. Thank you Janet for your compassion and encouragement. I have another question. He has to be at school at 7:00 AM - should he eat something or is it best to send him on an empty stomach? We had another bad day today, missed school. What is your experience, to eat or not to eat? Thanks.

Hi Annie. I got in trouble on another board for telling people about this web site, but I am going to tell you and hope I don't get into trouble on this board. The web site is called www.eatwithoutfear.com. They are promoting a book, but I didn't even buy the book, just the web site helped me. What if your son ate something like the BRAT diet (used for diarrhea), bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast? Like Harry said, everyone is different as to what their trigger foods are, but this is worth a try. Some of the things that I have eliminated from my diet are anything wheat (highly allergic), dairy (with the exception of yogurt, some people lack the necessary enzyme, lactose, to digest it), sugar, and caffeine. All of those things are known to cause gas and diarrhea in some people. Does your son have much anxiety or stress? This has been thought to be part of IBS. There is a program called Attacking Anxiety by Lucinda Bassett that has been really helpful to a lot of people. She has also written a book called From Panic to Power. The reason I am suggesting this is because this author talks about her problem with diarrhea, and the fear of having it when she was out of her home. I am sorry, I am giving you a lot more info. than what you asked for, it's just that I have four boys ages 3-11, so I am very sensitive when it comes to kids suffering in any way. I wish I could help more. Tell your son to hang in there, he is not the only one going thru this. Janet
