: I have tried to self diagnose myself and have come to the conclusion that I have IBS. I am too embarrassed to go to the doctor. My symptoms include mucous in stools often, cramps every now and again, bloating, gas, occassional blood on toilet paper and often needing to go urgently or needing to go and only mucous comes out. I also eat a lot of salads and find it worse after this.Could I have made a good enough self diagnosis??? Any comments please let me know I am very stressed about it.

You should not see any blood with IBS unless your rectum is sore and bleeding from bowel movements. You should see a doctor. Doctor hear all sorts of things beleive me they have heard more than you have to tell. A good rule of thumb is when everthing else is ruled out decide it is IBS. yes, salads are very difficult for IBS sufferers. Watch your foods and you will figureout what triggers your systoms. I can't have salad, seeds, nuts, fried food and spicy food. Rice, pototoes, grilled chicken, cooked fruit, and vegetable are good to me. Agatha
