dont be embarassed about this situation. It is not your fault. I work for the Gov't and sometimes I have to pull security duty, which means I can't leave my area. Well, I told them I may need to do so and they would have to get someone to watch while I was away. They understoon and I didn't care if they didn't. Kim this is a pervasive problem. Millions have this problem. Many people are kind and understanding. There are times when I must leave my desk 8 or 9 times a day. I just get up and go. No one questions me and not everyone knows my problem. Some I have to tell. When you share, you will find you are not alone even in your office there will be some. One day they will find a final cure.
