GL,

I've had external hemmoroid surgery twice (unfortunately). They were both on an outpatient basis and one was far more painful than the other (although both were no day at the beach!).

My first was just after my son was born (36 hours of hard, hard labor). My OBGYN did the surgery in his office. He lanced each "roid" and removed the vein. Although this was not a wonderful experience, by any means, it wasn't as bad as I expected and the healing process was normal.

The second time I had the surgery done my MD also did it in his office, but burned them off. This was 100% hideous, very, very painful and took far longer to heal.

In either case, ABSOLUTELY have someone drive you to and from the doctor. I passed out in the drug store after my second surgery (one and only time I did that) because I drove myself (my husband, at the time, was too busy) and I didn't anticipate the level of pain. No matter how the procedure goes, your body is still in a state of "shock" even after minimal surgery.

By the way, internal hemmoroids require a lot more cutting and the healing process can be weeks.
External are far simpler.

Hope you heal quickly and the procedure is painless for you!

DoriB
