I used to have that all the time. In fact, I usually would pass out and end up in the hospital. I had attacks like that every couple months from when I was 18-21 years old (I'm still paying off the bills!). I still get sick in the middle of the night but I have emergency pills my doctor gave me that help ease the cramping. Sometimes it would help if I just lay in bed and didn't go to the bathroom, because getting up and moving made it worse and I didn't always have diarrhea, sometimes it was just pain.

I don't know if it has anything to o with heritage, but I do have a little Austrian blood in me (more Irish, though). Good Luck! I know how much that hurts.
