Internal Hemmoroid, itching?

I just stumbled onto this site after searching the web. After reading some of these posts, I hope some people do not think this is a "problem", because it is to me.
A few weeks ago, I began to have an uncomfortable itch in my rectum. When it became unbearable, and "wiping" to the extent of pain, I discovered a small internal hemmoroid. (Seems like a blister). As this is my first, I have no idea what to do. Too embarrased to ask anyone, and not feeling this requires medical attention, I decided to "search" for my own answers.
Can anyone here suggest a cure/remedy? Would simple Preparation H or other type of "ointments" help? Will this CURE the problem or only "mask it"? What are my options? What causes these?

Lots of questions I know, but this is new to me!
