: very quickly, (because i'm now using a library computer + must go) i may also be suffering from irritable bladder, but i've never heard that term before, so may be not. basically i have to urinate a lot, usually getting up at least twice at night. Also in the same visit to the facility the flow can stop + start several times. is this similar to your problems? i have read that there is a link between ibs + problems with the urinary tract (is this the correct terminology?) but the book didn't go into details. must go now. MICK.

: : I have had IBS for 15 years and lately it has been controlled very well using enteric-coated peppermint oil capsules. I'm having a flare now and I wondered what dosage of Bentyl other people use? I found 20 mg four times a day is the lowest that helps. Also, has anyone experienced irritable bladder along with the irritable bowel? Thanks Ellen

Ellen,

I've had IBS for about 30yrs., but have never had a problem with my bladder or urinary tract, nor have I read anything about it. (BUT, I'm no expert!) Here are a couple of good sites if you want to do further research: http://www.ibshealth.com/ http://www.ibsgroup.org

About the bentyl, my prescription is for 20mg. 4/day. I was told it would help with the cramping, pain, and gas, not diarrhea. I was told to take it as needed. I never did take it the way the prescription said. I take it if I have bad cramping and pain & lately I started taking it 1/2 hr. before a meal that I think I might react to and it seems to keep me from reacting. (this is only once in a while) I use Immodium for the 'D', but you can't use it constantly. The psyllium Harry always talks about helps a lot too. Hope this helps, Ann S
