In response to the pain on lower left side - I too am 45 yrs old, had a hysterectomy 11 yrs ago (they left ovaries in), taking a low dose estrogen and just started having this pain 2 yrs ago. Currently seeking medical attention, suspecting IBS, but still getting nowhere as of yet. All I do know is that it hits when it wants to, stress seems to aggravate and "spells" last longer each time. The pain gets so significant that carrying groceries into the house from the car is a major ordeal! It starts with extremely loose stools with mucous, then can turn into constipation immediately. Silly as it may sound, I have found that Milk of Magnesia (3 tablespoons per day) helps keep my bowel movements more normal, rather than going back and forth from the other 2 symptoms. Never had this problem in life before. Hope anyone with this can find the solution, it's making my life miserable! Julie
