I'm devastated about Lotronex being taken off the market. I found out today when I had an appointment with my gastroenterologist. She gave me another prescription for lotronex but 2 pharmacy's near my house told me that they had to return the lotronex yesterday. The thought of having to go back to feeling ill all the time, makes me sick just thinking about it. I couldn't tolerate the tricyclic drugs, nor the anti-spasmodics. Lotronex was a life saver for me. For 2 years and 9 months I was basically housebound, and sick most of the time. I cut almost everything healthy out of my diet and it still didn't help.
My doctor is urging me to write to the FDA, which I certainly will. It makes me so mad. The problem she told me is that the FDA as well as many other medical professional don't consider IBS a real or serious condition. Of course there are some people with IBS who never have to take medication and can just add bran to their diet and they are fine, but with any disorder, disease, or condition, the level of discomfort or illness varies with each patient. For me I have bad IBS and it impacts the quality of my life.
