Harry,
I wanted to follow up and thank you for all the helpful advice you give on this board. I'm taking the advice you gave me in September about the importance of having sufficient soluble fiber and I can't tell you what a huge difference it has made. My friends and family have noticed the change too. They have witnessed me suffering with IBS since I've been a teenager (I'm 44 now) and they all have seen how much I''ve improved just from adding fiber to my diet. Previously, I would be terrified to eat out in restaurants because no matter waht I woud eat, I would usually end up sick in the bathroom before the meal was over. Although I realize that I will never be able to eat whatever I like, as so many others can, at least now I have some degree of control over my health. None of the doctors I consulted ever helped me; the best I got from them was a prescription for Lomotil, but I prefer to prevent attacks rather than drug myself after the fact! I believe if more doctors studied nutrition in medical school, those of us who suffer from IBS would be able to have a more normal life. Thanks again for all the great advice.
