: Have read all the messages about vomiting and ibs and some people feel it is a sympton and others don't. I have had some of the symptons decribed as ibs but i am in pain constantly and higher up in the ribcage and back. I have had this for a month and have been vomiting for a week. It was just naseau before. I also shake like with the chills but that may be due to medication i am on. So far the doctors have found out only that i am anemic, nothing else has shown up on the routine tests. My dr. is trying to get me in to see a specialist but it may take a while. Does this sound like ibs to anyone? I was under a lot of stres and still am with being sick so long.

Hi Tanya,
There are certain symptoms that are included in the ROME Diagnostic Criteria for diagnosing IBS.An International group of health care professionals that worked in the Gastro field had a meeting in Rome, Italy and came up with the symptoms to diagnose all GI disorders from constipation to IBS(Published in 1994). I think there are about GI 17 disorders in all. Vomiting is not listed as a symptom for IBS as defined by the ROME criteria for IBS but there is a Rome Diagnostic Criteria for Nausea and Vomiting where it is listed. The problem is you can have different illnesses that cause different symptoms or even combinations and even doctors are not well trained to ID. As a result many GI disorders are called IBS where they may not fit the published version. I know this is not clear but the best I can do right now!! Take Care---Harry
