There are certain symptoms that are included in the ROME Diagnostic Criteria for diagnosing IBS.An International group of health care professionals that worked in the Gastro field had a meeting in Rome, Italy and came up with the symptoms to diagnose all GI disorders from constipation to IBS(Published in 1994). I think there are about GI 17 disorders in all. Vomiting is not listed as a symptom for IBS as defined by the ROME criteria for IBS but there is a Rome Diagnostic Criteria for Nausea and Vomiting where it is listed. The problem is you can have different illnesses that cause different symptoms or even combinations and even doctors are not well trained to ID. As a result many GI disorders are called IBS where they may not fit the published version. I know this is not clear but the best I can do right now!! Take Care---Harry
