thanks for your input betty. i have been tested for porhyria. although the testing methods were questionable. when i called my dr. on it he was somewhat irritated that i would question his ability. i let it go - perhaps i shouldn't. the 24-hr sample was basically kept from light, but as far as i know that was not a porphyria screen, i think it was a type of cancer screen, although i could be wrong, there came a point when i quit asking questions. when the dr. decided that porphyria may be a possibility he took one morning mid-stream urine sample. no precautions with regard to light whatsoever. what are your symptoms? do you have a reaction to sunlight? porphyria seemed so rare and i really didn't think that i could have a disorder as such and not receive a diagnosis until this age. hmmmmm... fyi - i also posted "ivp - normal!?"
