: I am looking for any info on an enlarged kidney.
: When I had ultrasound done during pregnancy they noticed that the area(they called resorvoir) on the kidney was slightly enlarged on the baby. Now he is six weeks old and through an ultrasound they have found that his left kidney is enlarged.
: Is there anyone else who has had this experience and anyone who might have ideas of what it could mean?
Our daughter has an elarged kidney that was also discovered when I had an ultrasound. She had an ultrasound done at 4 weeks and will have another at 8. Our doctor says a likely cause is a blockage in the tube from the kidney to the bladder or a valve in the tube that opens the wrong way, letting urine back into the kidney. He is optomistic that it will correct itself. If not, she will need to see a urologist. The likely step then will be to inject dye into her bladder to see where it goes. If something needs to be surgically corrected, it will probably be done when she is 6 months old. If it is any consolation, our doctor told us not to spend a lot of time worrying about it (just a little.)
