Can a urine test rule out kidney stones?

Can a urine test rule out kidney stones?

I just had a urine test on Monday for what the Doctor said then might be kidney stones.
I was asked to call back today and was just informed that it was just a slight infection
no stones.

The reason I went to the Doctor about this is...a week ago I had very severe pains in my upper left
side. The pains were bad enough to make me scream, and I'm nowhere near "new" to pain. This
lasted off and on for over 16 hours and the pains would last from 15 to 45 mins. The area was still
tender and painful to the touch a week later at the Doctor's appointment.

My history is..I have had repeated urinary track infections and incontinence for the last 29 years (since
birth of my only child) and most of the time I don't even know when I've got an infection, they are found
on a routine exam. I've had at least 3 in the last two and a half years. The first two there was no pain
with and were only caught because of a routine exam. They were not "slight" infections like this one
so I don't understand why I was in so much pain with this one.

13 or 14 years ago I had surgery on my bladder for the incontinence and it didn't work. I've had pains
in the left side for at least 10 years whenever I bend to the right, which I have
to do every day to load the dishwasher.

If it isn't stones, then can anyone suggest something else it might be?

Thanks, Tina
