Thank you.
I was diagnosed at 32 with mild obstructive lung disease (early emphysema). I was told by 3 doctors that if I quit smoking , the emphysema would stabelize and HOPEFULLY not progress. Its those that continue smoking who get worse. This is also the information I have read in numerous health books on the subject. You CAN halt the progression if you quit early enough, it will stabelize, though it will not reverse. At 37, I put my hope in this. I know that it doesn't happen this way for everyone, as you can see by the above two responses. But, it does happen for many people. Have hope.

: : : Check with your pulmanary Dr. You might be experiencing an interaction with some of your other medications or even with the medication in the inhaler you are using. See if the Dr. thinks a change in your medication might be in order.....

: : Unfortunately, emphysema is a slowly progressive disease which is incurable. If you had it years ago, you still have it, even though you quit smoking. I also continued to get worse after I quit smoking over three years ago. I have been diagnosed with emphysema and COPD and told that it will never be cured. You should go to your doctor and get him to put you on medication and inhalers for your emphysema. You will feel sooooooo much better then. Good luck

: I too quit smoking after 40 yrs. only 3 yrs. ago and have been going down hill ever since. I use 2 inhalers every 3 hours, I take Prednisone, and a few other things. I am also on 1 lt. of 02 almost all the time, I didn't start to feel better until I started taking erythramyacin daily and even then feeling better is relative. But you can't moan over what your stupidity has brought you, you just have to accept it and make the best of a bad bargain. I know this doesn't help much but it's the best I can do.
