: I recently got over a bout of what I think was the flu. Chills, coughing, major body aches, head congestion.
: This went on for about a week. The coughing was particularly bad. It was so frequent and violent, my internal organs
: and diaphram were bruised. My question centers around what has accompanied this episode. I am 53 yeard old
: and have been smoking since I was 15. Now, something has happenned. Suddenly, since getting sick, I can't stand the taste
: or smell of cigarettes. I am looking at this at my opportunity to quit. I haven' had a cigarette in 6 days now. The thing is,
: this odor translates to my taste buds. It is a really awful taste in my mouth and everything smells really bad.
: I couldn't even drink coffee this morning because it smelled/tasted so bad! Is this odor coming from within me!. Did I stir up
: all kinds of stuff from my lungs with all the coughing and now I can smell it when I exhale? Can anyone tell me what is
: going on? Is it cancer I smell? Is there anything I can do to deal with this such as an herbal steam inhalant to help clear the
: odor? This is really scaring me and making me crazy. TIA.

Anything I say should not substitute for advice from your doctor. You certainly have been smoking for so many years that you probably have Chronic Lung Disease. I would quit this chance to quit smoking completely. If you have any doubts ("is it cancer") then I would suggest you go to your doctor and find out whats happening.
