I was diagnosed with IPF approximately 2 1/2 yrs. ago. Life expectancy I was told was 3-5 years. But through the grace of God I am still around kicking. My dr. started me on a drug called Imuran and it seems to be giving me some relief. I can find almost no information on the disease and it is so rare that much study is evidently being done. I am 41 and the only thing that the drs seem to have any hope for is a possible lung transplant. There are good days and bad days. I will be checking into the alpha1 anti trypin deficiency theory now that I have heard of it. Just give all the support you can to your relative with the disease.
Good luck!
