: : On 9-15-00 I went to emergency room with severe pains in chest & couldn't breath well, I was diagnosed with bacterial pnemonia and pleurisy. I ended up back in e.r. that same night not able to bend over, walk or anything the pain was so bad. After week, went to Dr. for ckup & returned to work following Mon. Week later Tues 10-3 returned to Dr with pain again, pnemonia and pleurisy still there. Off work for another 2 wks, back to Dr for ckup and while waiting for him to look at x-rays I heard him conferring with another Dr about one particular spot on left lung which is where most of the pain comes from. After reviewing first x-ray with 3rd x-ray he notices that same spot on all x-rays and mentions it not responding to meds. After showing me x-ray I asked him if spot could be something serious and he said no, just spot of pnemonia. I return first of Nov for more x-rays but am still having severe pain every once in awhile from a central location on lower left lung where spot is. I am kinda worried b/c I am a smoker and have been for 12 yrs or so. I have cut way way down to about pack every 2-3 days and I know I need to quit, but does this sound normal for a particular spot of pnemonia not to respond to treatment and to have continued pain in that one spot? If anyone can give me input I would appreciate it, I am a 26 yr old single mom and hate to be worried about something like this. Thanks...

I was diagnosed a year ago with pleurisy. It occured while working in a walkin cooler. It was also about this time of year. I honestly thought I was having a heart attack! Since I am also a single mother and self-employed I didn't dare "waste" money on calling paramedics to my work. After work I drove myself to the ambulance service and because a 38 year old woman had previously suffered a heart attack and died, the not oly insisted that I submit to a little ambulance trip after giving me nitro, morophine (after that, I really didn't care what they did with me as long as I could stay on that cloud!) If I promised to go to the hospital with them they would wave the ambulance fee. I was diagnosed with pleurisy, but the Dr. insisted on a followup stress test. Nothing was wrong with my heart and I've never smoked a cigarette in my life,so the only other answer was pleurisy. Doc recommended asprin,
