Lupus - status in the UK?

My GP diagnosed me as having AN autoimmune disease just before Xmas. He had referred me to a
rheumatologist at a local hospital. When I phone the hospital I was told that my notes had been seen
and that this was considered to be a routine matter and didn't come under either 'urgent' or 'soon' status.
This of course made me feel worse. However my GP has signed me off work for a month and wants to
sign me off for a further month at least - so he thinks this is serious?? Has anyone had similar
experiences in the UK? Has anyone had better? I would like to know if this is normal in the UK?
