: Hi Sharie, I hope this response finds you in health. I am 19 years old and have been diagnosed since I've been 16. I've been on Plaquenil for almost that entire time. I defiently recommend it. (From what I know) developing eye problems is rare. Just make sure that you see an eye doctor (recomended by your other doctor) who knows just how to check for the specific type of damage. You should be checked before starting on the medication and then atleast once a year (depending on what the doc says--I think its based on your dosage). The eye doctor will dilate your eyes and do a quick exam and the nurse will show you a picture book that tests your colors. The whole exam takes about 10 minutes (although I wait for the doctor for about 2 hours). I don't have any side affects from it either. Feel free to e-mail me about anything. Your Friend, Rachel Rachel413G@excite.com PS Did you know that Plaq. is really an Anti-Malaria medication? This is an added plus if you ever happen to travel to a country where you would have to take med to prevent malaria (I went to Ecuador over winter break )
