The Eliza and Western Blot are indirect tests for Lyme Disease. As such, they are not diagnostic of infection, but are only suggestive of previous exposure (much like a PPD for Tuberculosis). The CDC does not recommend these test to be used for diagnosis, but only for case surveillance (and reporting). Research has shown that at least 40% of all Lyme patients have negative ELISA and Western Blot testing..
