My 24 yr. old son has concurent later stage lyme and babisia. Part of the results of this is that his immune system is attacking his kidneys and he has gone into renal failure. He has just started with antibioics and his overall health is dangerously poor. He apparently has 2 options before him. A kidney specialist wants to treat him with steroids and chemo in an atempt to stop his immune system from further damaging his kidney. The other option is to just go after the lyme/babsia with antibiotics and see if kidney function returns when the lyme is arrested. Obviously, the steroid/chemo, while perhaps restoring the kidneys, will give the lyme a chance to progress unhindered. My question is are there others out there who have had similar problems with their kidneys, and whether or not their kidney function was successfully restored through either of these 2 approaches...or by other methods?
