I am doing a project for my english class and i chose lyme as my subject. When i was 7 my family went camping often. On one of these trips i was bitten by a tick and didnt realize it. My mom noticed a rash on my stomach and thought that i must be allergic to the bath bubbles i had been using. A few days later i began to have stomach cramps. The cramps were so severe my dad rushed me to the doctor, where i was immediatly sent to the hospital for appendicitis. The doctors realized that i didnt have appendicitis and ran several tests on me. None of these test came up positive and the doctors had no clue what was wrong with me. i spent 2 weeks in the hospital until they released me WITHOUT a diagnosis. For several weeks i was not allowed to walk. My dad would have ot carry me if we went out anywhere. my parents noticed taht they could see my heart beating rapidly under my shirt and took me to another hospital for a second opinion. Once i arrived at the second hospital i was diagonosed with lyme IMMEDIATLY. As a result of the lyme i had 3 valves in my heart leaking and a hole the size of a pinhead in it. By the time i was 10 the hole had grown into the size of a quarter and i had openheart surgery to correct it. I am 17 now and i still have 1 valve leaking, but everything else is fine. I do get tired very often but i am glad that i am as healthy as i am. Getting lyme is not the end of the world. I have had it for 10 years and im still going and i plan to be here for a LOT longer!
