: Tom in the future please do not burn the tick with a match. The only proper way to remove one is by pulling it straight out as close to the skin as possible, with tweezers only. Burning it with a match, putting Vaseline on it, pulling it out with your fingers increases your chance of infection. It is good that you are testing it, but the tests are not 100%. Yes it is ridiculous to wait until symptoms appear. A new infection requrires a minimum of 6 weeks of antibiotics. Where do you live?
I live in Monmouth County, N.J.. are you saying the spore tests on the tics are not 100%? I decided now not to take the medication until I know for sure if the Tic was infected or not. I read up on all of the side effects of this medication and I really don't want to take it now unless I absolutely have to. I can understand why the docs now don't like to prescribe it (I might have been better off asking for just plain Penicillian). Anyway, I figure if I wait and see a rash or get a positive, I can be sure I have it. I intend to take a blood test in about a month anyway to make sure. Anyt thoughts or comments are welcome.
