I became very sick on June 18 with what turned out to be Ehrlichiosis, another kind of tick disease caused by a protozoan, and I never even found the tic. I have gotten somewhat better, but I have strange symptoms developing that seem to echo yours. On a followup visit Thursday, Oct. 19, my doctor explained that the Lyme organism can hide in the brain, so I am being retested for Lyme. I sympathize with you. This will require great patience and understanding on the part of your spouse, and she will have to realize that your forgetting things is not just an act of carelessness or neglect, and she will have to more closely "supervise" those things that require "followup actions." You have to realize that if the Lyme organism found its way into the brain through the bloodstream, its "housekeeping" activities will interfere with chemical and electrical activities. (I am having confusion and memory problems and find more need for sleep.) If your test comes up negative, I would recommend being persistent. Ask your doctor: You may need to try the test again after about a month so that there will be more antibodies to find. Also, there are other tic diseases that might need to be eliminated. I had to see a communicable diseases specialist to find out what I had.
