Hi. I'm also 42 years old. Have missed some periods for about 3 years now. Before that, I was ALWAYS REGULAR. Went to the gyn. Checked for thyroid problems, pituitary tumor, and FHS levels (levels that would indicate menopause). I did not have a period since June 30. All tests came back ok, with the exception of the FHS level. Said it was a little high, indicating the beginning of menopause. The doctor gave me Provera. Took it for 14 days, then got my period a few days later. He said that if I did not get my period after taking the pills, that my estrogen would be too low, as these pills need to mix with estrogen to produce a period. Well, just today, I called the doctor's office. I did get my period. Now I will find out tomorrow if he wants me to take these pills again, or just see if my period comes on naturally. I, too, felt like I was in a "constant PMS." I had to respond, as my "problem" sounded like yours.
Have they checked your FHS levels? Maybe you are starting an "earlier" menopause. Although, at 42, I don't think we're too far off from that.
Hope this helps. Brenda
