: My doctor just scheduled me for a Transrectal Ultrasound to look at my prostate in two weeks. Can anyone tell me what to expect from this experience. What little I've found on the net about it makes me nervous. The thought of lying there with a probe in my rectum conjures up images of me getting an embarrassing erection in front of the doctor and whomever else is present during the procedure. Plus, I was given no instructions to self administer an enema or anything either... is that required?
: Anyone's input would be appreciated to help alleviate my fears.
I had a TRU a few weeks ago. Believe me you won't even feel like getting an erection. It does not hurt but it is kind of unconfortable. I had to give myself an enema about 2 hours before.
They are looking for a blockage and or prostate stones. You did not say what you problem is. My Dr. found stones which are infected and cauusing a blockage in the bladder. This caused my blood pressure to rise and resulted in a stroke. On Monday they are going to preform a TUIP where they go in and make the opening (uretha) in the prostate larger so the urine passes better. Don't worry it's not that big a deal.
Good Luck and keep us posted.
