In Reply to: anyone here had nose surgery or have information on it? posted by brahma-bull on October 31, 2000 at 22:17:14:

Yes, I had a septoplasty and rhinoplasty about 9 years ago. Mostly for medical reasons (I couldn't breathe well through one nostril, but I had some cosmetic stuff done to reshape the length and width of my nose.

Perhaps the techniques and medications being used today are better than they were then, but for me it was the most painful experience of my life (and I have also had abdominal surgery which was a piece of cake in comparison). I'm not one of those who complains about pain that much, but my wife was about to kick me out of the house. It was a full week before I was able to get back to work, although in retrospect, that was probably too soon.

I got through the first few days after the surgery only with the help of morphine. Yours may be much different, as I had bone work done for my breathing. Anyway, insurance covered almost all of it (the doctor didn't even charge anything extra for the cosmetic work). I think the total bill was around $5,000, and it was day surgery.

There is my experience for what it's worth. I've also had friends that had nose work done too, and they in general express the same thing... it hurts like hell.

Good luck
