: For some time now I've been talking with a psychologist, had one visit to a psychiatrist, and have talked
: to my MD several times. I've taken prozac, effexor, and imipramine, and xanax. I stopped the TCA and SSRI
: due to side effects, etc. I have done some reading on bipolar and I believe that I have some traits of that.
: The psychologist gave me the mMPI test and he says it doesn't indicate such. I've just now convinced my
: MD that I have some of the traits. I take only xanax now. He gave me a book on bipolar and told me to
: study it and if I wanted to try lithium to find out he would let me do that. I do have rather WIDE mood
: swings but they are unpredictable in length. Does anyone that has taken lithium have any pro and con regarding
: giving it a try to see if it does anything? I need some advice, please....thanks
Thomas,
IF you indeed do have bipolar disorder, and the disorder is severely impacting your life, then Lithium would be a very good choice. Depakote is also given a lot for bipolar. Most (if not all) medications for these types of problems have side effects---some have more (and worse) side effects than others. But if the problem is severe and disrupting your life, they can also help a GREAT deal!
