: MY PSCHIATRIST PRESCRIBED TRAZADONE 50MG TO ME FOR SLEEP ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO, BUT HAVE RECENTLY BEEN IN A MAJOR CAR ACCIDENT. SINCE THE ACCIDENT I HAVE BEEN GETTING CONSTANT TENSION HEADACHES. MY NEUROLIGIST HAS SUGGECSTED I TAKE ELAVIL FOR SLEEP AND THAT IT WILL HELP WITH THE HEADACHES. I TOOK THE ELAVIL FOR TWO DAYS AND HAD SOME SIDE AFFECTS BUT MOSTLY I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE THE TRAZADONE ALONG WITH 75MG ZOLOFT HAS HELPED ME A GREAT DEAL WITH MY DEPRESSION AND ANXIIOTY. I DON'T WANT THE TRAZADONE TO WEAR OF AND WAIT FOR THE ELAVIL TO KICK IN. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INPUT THAT COULD HELP ME WITH MY DECISION?
I don't know anything about Elavil, but I have been on 50 mg Trazodone since July. I was on Remeron, but asked for something different because of the weight gain. I have heard that Trazodone is not usually prescribed as an AD, but more for sleep. You might ask your doc if you can take the traz and the elavil together for a short time. That is how my doc had me switch from the remeron to the trazodone. About the tension headaches....I was also in a bad car crash and have those as a result. I wake up with them more often than not. Are you in physical therapy? It is possible that strengthening the muscles in your back and neck could help. If your crash was recent, I hope you are in physical therapy now to hopefully avoid a chronic problem like I seem to have. Also, I like to use heat for the back of my neck where the tension starts, but am told ICE would be better. Sounds awful!! Hope this helps a bit.
