The difference between psychiatrists and psychologists is that psychiatrists are MDs, psychologists not. Psychiatrists can prescribe medications, psychologists can't. They can help you with therapy though.
You can also start with your regular doctor, if you have a regular doctor, and he / she will be able to refer you somewhere.
Sorry I am not from Canada so I cannot answer the other question.
Are you the same Thomas who posted on the depression board? I think some canadians answered there!
