Moving From Paxil to Effexor XR (questions?)

I've been using Paxil for about 6 weeks now for general anxiety dissorder. It isn't helping me, so my doctor decided to increase the dosage to 40mg and if that doesn't work, change to Effexor XR.

I've read most of the messages concerning Paxil and I'm very concerned with how I will change over to Effexor.

Will I need to gradually reduce my Paxil before
starting Effexor?

or

Will I be able to just stop using Paxil and start the Effexor?

or

Will I start using the Effexor while I gradually reduce the use of Paxil.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
