Hi Jean here -- its June 22,2000 and I just found your post. Hope this helps. I was on Paxil 30 mg. for 2 years and then 40 mg. for 6 months for panic disorder. Paxil stopped working. I now take Effexor XR. I started off, naturally, with the minimum dose. I am now up to 337.5 mg. I DID NOT have any withdrawal and/or ill effects from switching from paxil 40 mg. to Effexor Xr. Just FYI: I'm 5'3" and weigh about 100# and survived the drug switchover. I'm not saying you may not have problems making the change. Since I just found your post, you may have made the switch successfully. I hope so..I've been there, and so far so good. Best of luck to you.

I've been using Paxil for about 6 weeks now for general anxiety dissorder. It isn't helping me, so my doctor decided to increase the dosage to 40mg and if that doesn't work, change to Effexor XR.

: I've read most of the messages concerning Paxil and I'm very concerned with how I will change over to Effexor.

: Will I need to gradually reduce my Paxil before

: Will I be able to just stop using Paxil and start the Effexor?
