: I am very confused. I have seen several people write that they are not taking any medication. I am newly diagnosed (about 1 week) and my neurologist wants me to see him next week to discuss medications. Why are some people not taking medication and my physician suggests I should. Am I really bad off? The only symptoms I have ever had was 2 cases of optic neuritis 4 years apart. Nothing else. My MRI was clean but my CSF indicated MS and other tests ruled out other diseases. Isnt the medication supposed to prevent relapses? Why wouldn't everyone be on it? This is all so new and confusing.
Susan, All I know is that I was diagnosed last year, (but have had symptons for at least 12 years) and from what I hear and understand, the sooner you start a medication (I am on Avonex) the better off you are. If you want to talk more about it (because I had a hard time deciding at first as well) please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org Good Luck, Mary Chris
