What a good friend you are! We're coming up on the 2nd anniversary of my daughter's MS diagnosis. Not being happy with just the treatments by her neurologist, we've spent the last two years searching and experimenting. You can help your friend by helping her (him) search for those medicines, supplements, and other treatments that might help. Currently the ABC drugs (Avonex, Betaseron, Copaxone) are being prescribed for the newly diagnosed. It's important to read all the information about them and their side effects. The interferons (A&B) can have some scary side effects,but many people do well on them. My daughter did not, but is now doing well on Copaxone, Naltrexone (low dose) and Procarin. Exercise and nutritional supplements can also be very important as well as eliminating any allergic foods, avoiding heavy metals and other neurotoxins. There's a lot of information out there and more and more things that can help MS sufferers lead a normal life.
