: A friend of mine who has experienced some neurological problems recently wrote me about a visit to her doctor, who told her he thinks she has an "inflammation of central nervous system and/or a demylination process". He did not mention MS. He has scheduled her for an MRI of the brain, and an EEG and VER (whatever that is).

: I am of course very concerned about what this could mean. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks.

MS is a demyelinating disease. Guillian Barre is too, but it is a much more acute form of demyelination. And of course, the central nervous system consists of the spinal cord and the brain. Try searching for " demyelinating disease and the central nervous system" I'm sure there will be lots of topics you can read there. The docs just have to rule out other diseases before they can diagnose MS. So many of them have the same symptoms. Sometimes it's a long process. Good luck to your freind. She's already lucky for having you to care about her. Judy
