Upper back pain

I have had considerable upper back pain under the shoulder blades for the past six months. At times, the pain is a burning, stabbing pain between the shoulder blades. I've gone for regular tests,E.K.G. MRI, ultra-sound, bone scan, and nothing was noted.Pain seems to increase as the day goes on. I'm beginning to wonder if it might be referred pain from another area. Anyone experience similar symptoms? Could it be gastrointestinal? Doctors tell me not to worry but pain has drained me and is an everyday companion I can do without. Suggestions?
