I was diagnosed as having dermatomyositis at Mayo Clinic over 25 years ago. At the time,
I was in my mid twenties. After approximately one year of being disabled, I was able to go
on with my life. My first actual experience after coming off from the disability was to go
through a police academy. I have worked as a police officer basically every since. I am a
defensive tactics instructor and have spent time on a SWAT team. I do bicycle patrol and
in line skate patrol. So, as you can see, although this is a serious desease, it is only a
temporary set back that can be over come. Your daughter should have the opportunity to
continue on and lead a very full and productive life.
