: : Please give me any information on this infection I have had it since1983 after a motorcycle accident have been in hospital several times since on I.V. antibiotics but I have not had a reacurence since 1992please give any info. you can no one seems to be able to tell me anything. Thank you for your time .
I have had three operations for osteomylitis. The first operation was when I was 16 years old.
The most common way to receive osteomylitis is from a cut or open sore. Mine was neither. I don't know how I got it in my right humerous. The first surgery consisted of opening up the site and removing the dead bone. They flushed the sight letting it drain. I was on antibiotics for three months afterwards. My second flair up was in 1993. After a years treatment of antibiotics I was scheduled for a second surgery. After the surgery I stayed on intervenus for 6 weeks then 6 months worth of antibiotics by mouth. My third bout of osteomylitis was in 1999. After antibiotics orally not working I was scheduled for the 90's operation and hyper baric treatment. I had surgery where there removed more bone again and flushed site thoroughly. Hyper baric treatments were set up for 40 treatments. This was going in a "submarine" like structure where they could decomprised the air to so many feet below surface. (as divers would). I took 100% oxygen through a mask 3 times at 20 mins. and 1 time at 15 mins. for 40 days. To date, my arm is still bothering me. My doctors told me if there was one germ left in your body that it could keep recurring.
No matter how careful they are if could keep coming back. Is there any other treatments out there that have been tried?
