I have a very good friend that was in a horrible car accident on July 27, 2000. Among other injuries, he suffered from a fractured skull and broken jaw. Due to the surgery that he needed for his jaw, and the swelling in his head, he is suffering from nerve damage on one side of his face. He cannot hear out of that ear, he cannot blink his eye and his mouth is paralyzed. When he speaks, he slurs his words and has a hard time pronounced certain letters. He went to his neurologist today who told him (about 3 weeks ago) that once the swelling in his head goes down, everything should go back to normal. Well, he had his follow up this morning and the doctor told him that the swelling has gone down but the facial paralysis is going to be permanent. I will definitely advise him to get a 2nd (or 3rd) opinion but can anyone offer any other type of alternative treatments that will help repair his damaged nerves?
Thank you very much,
Lisa
