: My doctors are suggesting that my polyneuopathy could be a result of exposure to heavy metals such as lead and arsenic. I worked as a X-Ray tech. for over 25 years...long before there was automatic processing of films. Is anyone aware of a possible connection. I see my neurologist on the 18th of this mo....is there a way to test to see if in fact these metals are in my system?
Hi: Carole,As you may know neuopathy is the result of damage to the myelin sheath that covers the nerves. This is what happens to people having Multiple Sclerosis but their nerves are destroyed. There is some evidence that heavy metals that are toxic to your body can contribute to this.People that have MS have 7 times higher levels of Mercury than healthy people. They can test your blood for heavy metals ( lead, mercury, cadmium, nickel and other toxic things). There is also a Hair Analysis that can be used but it takes more time and most MD's don't use it or believe the results. The best way to get rid of heavy metals is Cheation Therapy using EDTA.I have heard that the myelin can be repaired with lecithin but it is very slow and Md's don't believe that.I don't think they have an answer for healing. It may be worth a try. If you have heavy metal toxicity,I would think you may have some other symptoms as well. Let us know on the Alternative Medicine Board. I think its read more. God bless,--Harry
