Hello,

Today, I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy during a test with electrodes, which was actually being conducted to confirm a neurologist's diagnosis of myotonia congenita. I won't go into what myotonia congenita is here, but I was surprised at the diagnosis of the PN, since I have no tingling or numbness in the extremeties. On occasion, however, I can't stand to be touched. It's not painful, but my skin will become very sensitive. It usually lasts no more than a few hours at a time, and maybe once a month. I do have some questions, and hope I can draw on experiences of those reading these posts:

1. Are there causes of PN other than the things I've seen in the literature; e.g., diabetes, alcoholism? I have neither of these, so I'm bewildered. Is it sometimes not related to anything specific?

2. I originally went to the neurologist because of a tremor in my upper body, which occurs only during the night. He is very perplexed, but is thinking it may somehow be connected to the PN. Has anyone else had PN and a tremor beginning at about the same time? Other tests have not explained the tremor, and it doesn't respond to propranol, as was expected.

3. I have been taking Prilosec for acid reflux for 2 years. Has anyone ever heard of any connection to this drug? I haven't seen anything in the literature making a connection.

4. Can PN make one's scalp sensitive and painful? Just in the last week I've been having such a sensation...first time ever.

Thanks so much! Pls feel free to reply to my e-mail address as well as this message board, if you like.

Dave
